about

this is one of the first commissions I took on songdap.com
the client is an old buddy of mine from Seattle who wanted to hear a Woody Guthrie style song about the book burnings that happened in the USA a decade after we beat up the Nazis in WWII.

in regards to songdap, YOU TOO CAN PAY ME TO WRITE YOU A SONG!basically, you can request that I write you a specific song. I've done 10 so far, I'll be posting them here. the next 5 are also discounted if you're interested.

lyrics

ain't it illegal, ain't it a crime
a hideous incideous outrageous waste of time
the root of all that's evil and it only costs a dime
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind

our stories all got censored back in 1954
the corner stops and candy shops won't sell them anymore
those who fought for freedom well they must've lost this war
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind

while uncle Joe McCarthy was hunting for the reds
his comrade Bobby Hendrickson sought children's books instead
the senator said monsters hide underneath their beds
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind

and Dr. Fredrick Worthem said that comics warp our teens
'cause blood and gore and sex galore are lurid and obscene
now teachers act like nazis burning books and magazines
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind

now all these damned do-gooders ought to pay for their sins
'cause limiting our liberties is how fascism begins
the bad guys lined their pockets and the heroes didn't win
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind

O, ain't it illegal, ain't it a crime
the root of all that's evil and I'm proud to call it mine
there's nothing more American and it only costs a dime
correct me if I'm wrong, but I though we had rights
maybe comic books really did rot my mind
